Blackfinch Energy Appoints Aemelia Chivers as Junior Investment Analyst Following Successful Internship

Blackfinch Energy has appointed Aemelia Chivers as Junior Investment Analyst after a successful internship developed into a permanent role.

Aemelia first approached Blackfinch at the start of the year looking for paid experience within its Energy team. Her interest in the sector had grown during her Geography degree at the University of Bristol, where she explored sustainability, energy and environmental topics.

Blackfinch initially offered Aemelia a short-term internship. But as she took on greater responsibility and demonstrated the value she could bring to the team, the opportunity evolved.

Her internship was extended and she gained experience across Portfolio Management, Commercial, Origination and Execution. This gave her practical insight into renewable energy investing and the different disciplines involved in managing and growing an energy portfolio.

In June, Aemelia joined Blackfinch Energy permanently as Junior Investment Analyst.

Since moving into the full-time role, she has continued to build her experience across Portfolio Management and Origination & Execution. Blackfinch has also encouraged Aemelia to explore interests beyond her core role. After she expressed an interest in Hatchery Labs, where new Blackfinch ideas and propositions are developed.

Aemelia Chivers, Junior Investment Analyst at Blackfinch Energy, said: “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity Blackfinch has given me to turn an internship into the start of my career in renewable energy investment. From the outset, I was presented with real responsibility and given the chance to work across different areas of the Energy team.

"My internship included running a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) tender for one of Sedgwick’s wind farms, attending the All-Energy conference in Glasgow and visiting a number of our sites, including the Kiln Fields solar farm. All of which helped bring to life the operational and commercial side of managing renewable energy assets.

I’ve also been fortunate to spend time learning from colleagues with significant experience in the sector. I’m excited to continue building my knowledge and developing my career with Blackfinch.”

Kerry Hughes, Investment Director at Blackfinch Energy said: “What stood out about Aemelia was her curiosity and the way she approached new challenges. She asked thoughtful questions, took feedback on board and was keen to understand not just what we were doing, but why it mattered from an investment and commercial perspective.

“That mindset is important in our team. Technical skills can be developed, but we also look for people who are engaged, willing to learn and confident enough to bring fresh thinking to the table.

“Creating opportunities for graduate-level talent is part of how we build for the future. It gives people at the start of their careers the chance to develop real expertise, while bringing new perspectives into the business.”

Aemelia’s progression reflects Blackfinch’s wider approach to supporting graduate-level talent and helping people build their careers through practical experience, exposure to experienced colleagues and opportunities to develop across the business.

For Blackfinch Energy, encouraging the next generation of investment professionals is also an investment in the future of the sector. By giving early-career talent meaningful responsibility and the chance to build specialist knowledge, the team can help develop the skills and expertise needed to support the continued growth of renewable energy and energy infrastructure.
