As the official main sponsor of Worcester County Cricket Club (WCCC), and its champion team Worcester Rapids, we are cheering them on in completing their Rapids Relay fundraiser. The event takes place over seven days, ending Thursday 7th May.
In the face of the coronavirus pandemic and the strain on health services, the WCCC has been inspired to take action and raise money for local charity the Acorns Children’s Hospice. With the hospice’s income having been reduced at this time, it needs these funds to continue caring for local children and their families, providing vital support during this period.
The WCCC’s coaches, first-team squad, women’s and academy players have all joined forces to run this virtual relay. The event also provides a chance for furloughed WCCC players, who have been keeping fit while based at home, to do further exercise in aid of this great cause.
Making the most of current government guidelines on exercise time, the WCCC participants will together cover nearly 1,000 kilometres over the seven days. Each person aims to run an average of 11.5 kilometres per hour, before handing over to the next player in the relay.
The event runs from 8am to 8pm each day, and has already raised several thousand pounds. The team’s local route starts and ends at the club’s grounds, Blackfinch New Road, so named in 2017, reflecting our continued work with the WCCC.
